Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) is prevalent but often neglected in the health care setting. More than often it is underdiagnosed and undertreated.
According to the American College of OB/GYN, FSD commonly affects women aged 40-60 years old. FSD can be linked to chronic disease, depression, medication use and pelvic floor dysfunction. Women who are menopausal are also affected and will often notice a large decrease in their sexual desire.
Common symptoms of FSD include low or complete loss of sexual desire or arousal, vaginal dryness with painful intercourse and decreased genital sensation. When women lose interest in sex, they often report more depression and relationship strain. Testosterone affects sexual drive in both men and women. Levels peak in women in their mid 20s and then steadily decline until menopause, when they drop dramatically.
Numerous studies have shown a significant increase in sexual desire and vaginal lubrication with natural testosterone therapy. Testosterone not only helps with increasing sex drive but it also improves joint pain, memory, focus, weight loss and chronic fatigue. Bio-identical testosterone has helped hundreds of women get their sex life back and improve their quality of life.
