1. Eyes
Apply a cold compress to your eyes before putting on makeup. This can be done with a gel eye mask that you put in the freezer or even a bag of frozen vegetables (peas work well). The cold temperature tightens the eye area and reduces puffiness, making you look more rested and awake. Next, use an eyelash curler to further lift and open the eyes for a more youthful appearance. Apply a cream or powder highlighter directly above and below the arch of each eyebrow for a lifting effect, and blend well.
2. Cheeks
Apply a pop of pink blush (cream or powder) to the apples of the cheeks and sweep out and across the cheek, all the way to the hairline. Then apply a stroke of cream or powder highlighter to the uppermost part of the cheekbone (below the outer corner of each eye). (I recommend the NYX Wonder Stick from Ulta, in Universal Shade, which is under $10.)
3. Lips
Lightly line your lips with a nude or neutral tone pencil and follow with a splash of pink gloss. (I recommend Christian Dior Lip Glow in Pink – it goes on clear and adjusts to your skin tone to look very natural and pretty.) Dab a small speck of cream or powder highlighter directly above the cupid’s bow of your mouth.
4. Skin
Women with more mature skin should opt for a liquid foundation, as powder can settle into fine lines and make wrinkles more pronounced. Apply a makeup primer as a base layer to smooth skin even more; your makeup will last longer and it won’t settle into the cracks.
5. Jawline
Use a darker shade of foundation or a contouring stick (the NYX Wonder Stick is great for this) to apply a thin line of color 1-2 shades darker directly on the jawline from ear to chin. Blend well to create more shadow and definition on the face, resulting in a more youthful and shapely look. You can also blend this darker shade directly under the chin and neck to
create a more lifted appearance. P
